Given that the price of second-hand ME Supers is well below the cost of
repair, it seemed like the only sensible way to fix a totally jammed
aperture indicator coupler was to go DIY. Consequently I spent most of
the day doing exactly that.
A few things struck me: in particular how similar the basic internal
construction was to cameras as old as the Spotmatic and probably even
older. I guess there aren't really that many ways to stick the bits of
a camera together if you have everything joined up mechanically. :-)
I have to say that the Super is more impressive in terms of how much
they managed to squeeze into such a small space than in terms of how
easy it is to fix - why the *entire camera* had to be dismantled just to
reach a component a few millimetres inside the lens mount I really don't
know! The extra electronics compared to the ME really made the
disassembly process quite unpleasant - there's some very tricky
soldering involved. I hate to think what the Super A's like! Anyone
taken one apart?
