I like to think of a ~photographer~ as something a bit more than one
who takes pictures.  I'm not sure where that line might be, but
given that there are those with cameras who know nothing more about
the picture ~taking~ process than point and shoot, and who know even
less than that about the picture ~making~ process, there is, IMO, a
difference such as one might find between, perhaps, a mechanic and
one who tinkers on his own cars by changing oil and giving the
engine a simple tune up.

A friend recently went to Africa and took many pictures of animals
and trees silhouetted against the sunset.  He used his ME S on auto
mode.  He was happy with his pictures, and some were really quite
nice.  However, based on his results, I'd not call him a
~photographer~ as his results were not a result of planning or even
understanding, but a result of just the way the meter happened to
read.
