There was a movie about that. Heavy water factory in Norway somewhere. Heroes of Telemark? Something of Telemark? Don't remember much else but the heavy water, and they had to ski to get there (the saboteurs, that is).
Quite a bit more complicated than that, Frank, involving traversing some serious mountain areas in winter and being stuck up there for some time as well. Also had to sink the ferry that the Nazis tried to evacuate the heavy water on. Just another account of the everyday heroism that went on in occupied Europe - all of which manage to uplift and upset at the same time. There have been at least two films about it and a recent attempt to re-enact the journey undertaken by the partisans. Not sure if that included the diet, which was ...... interesting.....
Glad you all had such a great time! Look forward to the pix.
Next time we plodge up to our ****s in half-frozen marsh to see some birdies fornicating, I am sure you will be welcome to join in. You have no idea of the fun it can be. 8-)
Pictures might take some time, as I was using one of those old-fashioned chemical reaction apparatuses and I do have rather a backlog to deal with.
