Hi Frank,

I've been looking at this one off and on since you posted
it. My first reaction was that it's a strong image because
of the cropping. But in time, over several viewings, it
became weaker and weaker. Cropping out a portion of
Claire's face as you did diminishes the potential this photo
has ... it reminds me of all the snaps our parents took with
their box cameras in which part of Aunt Gertie's head was
missing.

Apart from the missing portion of Claire's head, there's a
good potential for a nice, solid photo here. The person in
the background picking fruit, the apple being presented, and
the expression on Claire's face, all combine nicely to tell
a little story of a nice moment in the orchard. However,
the presentation as it is doesn't make it for me.

Now, jumping back to an unfinished conversation we've had -
but first this comment: the experiment was a worthy one.
However, had you photographed this scene in a more
conventional manner, you'd have been able to crop and trim
the photo to get the same result while at the same time
allowing room (literally and figuratively) to explore other
options as well.

kind regards from foggy San Francisco where the freshest
apples are now from Chile,

Shel
