I finally read the entire thread about the contest and digital issues
you're facing at GFM. It does get sticky when you're talking about judging
images on a monitor instead of prints.

The only real reason I enter contests in my local club is to get feedback
from the other members. The score sheets tell me which slides people really
liked and which ones they thought weren't so great. Sometimes I'm perplexed
by their choices but it's part of the variability that's built into us as
humans. A slide can win best of show in one contest and not even make
honorable mention in another.

I also really enjoy seeing the work of the other members. It's a terrific
learning experience and can make for some very interesting conversations
afterward.

Apparently, due to the number of slides that will be submitted in the
official GFM contest we won't have the opportunity to see all the
submissions and there won't be score sheets. I'm not complaining!!! I fully
understand the amount of work the judges will be doing and I appreciate it
very much.

I would still like to see the shots that the other PDML members take. I
hereby propose that we have a PDML slide show along with the digital
whatever that you guys work up. It would be a great way for us to see each
others work and offer constructive criticism. I think some of us could learn
a lot and even the experts could learn something. I'm not proposing another
slide contest. Just a slide run through with comments and questions as
appropriate.

Any thoughts?

Tom Reese
