Actually, I don't mind the odd bit of offal myself. Tripe & onions, brains'n'bacon, lambs fry. Haggis is quite nice, too. Shame that mad cows' disease has taken brains off the menu. It's not in Australia, but who wants to be the founding member of THAT club.
Don't you believe it. There has _never_ been a case in a beef herd in the UK. _All_ cases were in dairy herds. Why? Because it only manifests itself after about five years. No beef animals live that long. Nor do pigs, lambs, chickens...... They could all be carrying it.
Equally oddly, BSE is a disease that can only be diagnosed at post-mortem. It is a notifiable disease in the EU. That is, if the vet suspects that the illness may be BSE, even though it is likely to be something else with identical signs, it must be reported. In the UK, this caused the "hundreds of cases a week" statistics. Statistics from othe EU countries make interesting reading - can you guess why?
