The K1000 wouldn't be my first choice for street photography because the mirror slap is horrendous. Of course, I've tried it anyway. :) My favorite camera for street photography is my old Yashicamat TLR. The shutter is quiet because there's no mirror, and you're not actually looking AT people, you're looking down into the waist finder, so I think that helps.
