Hi Shel Diskeeper Workstation/Server is the best defragmenter on the market and the only one with good boot time defragmentation with directory consolidation. Disabling Antivirus and any other task during defragmenting help a lot and dividing your hardisk in smaller partitions too. Sorting files alphabetically takes a lot of time. Don't care about *some* fragments, they do not matter. For that reason you could stay with Norton Speed disk or even the build in diskeeper light. OO-Defrag is even slower, you can download a minimal freeware version to test. The best solution is to install a second bare Windows XP into a separate partition and use that to defragment the main installation and use it for other maintenance jobs like deleting virii or if the first installation does not start anymore and you don't have access to the NTFS partitions. That's how I do it and I install a second minimum Windows on every Server for security reasons. Never forget to test your drives for errors with "chkdsk c: /F" for Drive C *before* defragmenting, not every defragmenter does that by itself.
I hope that helps Markus >>I've been using Norton's Speed Disk to defrag the disks on >>my current computer, and have been reasonably satisfied with >>the results.
