Well, I can see what Marnie's saying.
We discussed this last week, when Shel first posted this interesting project.
Was it the person who designed the site who screwed up by cutting off the heads etc. on the thumbs? Whatever the case, the photogrpher's name is on the site, and it's his responsibility to make it right.
If he doesn't care about the thumbs, then he's opening himself up to folks like Marnie, Graywolf and Cotty, who looked at the thumbs and dismissed the project. And, why wouldn't they? ~Usually~, the thumbs are merely a smaller representation of the larger image. They aren't usually cropped, at least not as extremely as these were.
Thumbnails are basically an invitation to view a larger image. If the invitation is flawed, can one wonder why no one shows up to the dance? (hey, how's that for a metaphor, eh? <VBG>).
So, Shel and Shawn are right. One should open before criticizing. But so are the thumbnail dismissers, IMHO. Either get them right, or don't use them.
This sounds like an old ad for Certs: "You're both right! It's a breath mint ~and~ a candy mint!"
cheers, frank

If you haven't taken the time to look, then you don't deserve the right to criticize. IMHO.
