I took the ferry from Manhattan today to visit a friend of mine on the
New Jersey shore. The ferry ride was fun and offered many photographic
opportunities, so of course I brought the istD. As we were getting ready
to leave my friend's house when I picked up the camera; the camera strap
caught on the corner of the dining room table and the camera dropped to
the floor, lens cap first. The lens cap popped off and got a little
shredded on the edges. The UV filter shattered. The lens and camera were
fine. I think the step-up ring absorbed a little of the impact as well
since it took some work to pry apart the ring and the UV filter ring.
And that's why I will never leave the house without a UV filter on all my lenses (not that I ever have before).
Oh, and the day started off with a bang...I thought I was supposed to be
at a pier on the West side of town, when in fact I was supposed to be on
the East side. I managed to catch a cab on the West Side Highway with 20
minutes to spare, and unbelievably I arrived at the correct pier just as
the ferry was getting ready to leave. I guess someone was looking out
for me today!
