It's a right pain that my other MP3 player and the *istD and many other devices still choose proprietary sockets though - just makes no sense whatsoever, except that they make extra money out of expensive cabling....
Indeed. There are three standard USB connectors:
USB-A: this is what goes in to the 'host', ie computer USB-B: goes in to the peripheral device.. most printers have this type USB-mini B: A much smaller connector, for mobile devices.
My Canon S45 has a USB mini-B, nice and standard. Pentax in their wisdom decided against going for something standard, and then stuck the video out on the same connector as USB. Oh well.
