If you get it the best way to print is using profiles, to proper paper channel with color management on ICM, ICC profile no color adjustment. Epson has some expanded profiles available free, though you have to download PIM II to get them (no big deal) I still find their profiles a touch too red for my liking. Try downloading Pictorico's profiles for Photo Gallery Gloss paper. I use that profile with Epson, Illford, and Pictorico paper and like the results. I've also had ok success calibrating my monitor with just Adobe Gamma, though I usually will tone down the saturation ~5% for most of my images. I don't use matte often so I can't comment on how the Pictorico profile works with that, Though I'll try an image on some Epson Enhanced matte if you want me to.
