Paul got the fill flash exactly right though if that is what he was trying to show.

Hi, Paul,
Well, you know that I love your work, and I've praised it often here. So, I don't feel so bad saying that this one leaves me a bit flat. I don't know what I was expecting after your description, but anticipation ran high. When I opened it, I just kind of shrugged.
Technically it's a fine shot. Nice and sharp. Only quibble on the technical side is that hot rearview. I don't know if that can be toned down with the Photoshop equivalent of burning (maybe it already has, I don't know). Other than that, sharpness is very impressive. Composition is good.
I just keep thinking that maybe I'd like to see her react to the camera. Or maybe, if she isn't aware of the camera, I might prefer to see her doing something, rather than staring impassively ahead. I seem to long for some action that isn't there.
Your description of the car left me drooling, but I don't get a sense of that car here, other than the tach (as you pointed out), and the wooden steering wheel. Maybe pulling back a bit might have helped.
I know that what I'm doing is suggesting shots that this isn't (how's that for bad English?), which really isn't fair. I really should just comment on what you've presented to us, which is a very competent photo that unfortunately doesn't speak to me. Maybe I'm in the minority (I hope I am).
Sounds like the event was great fun, though! <g>
cheers, frank

One of the summer's big automotive events in Southeast Michigan is the Gratiot Cruise. Second only to the Woodward Dream Cruise in size and scope it draws thousands of nice cars. This young lady was driving a 67 Chevy II with a 7 liter Chevy engine that sounded like a good 500 horsepower at minimum. Note the tell-tale tach right in front of her face. The license plate read "Too Bad." Fun stuff. I pulled up the reportedly useless mini flash on my *ist D and pointed my FA 28-105 through the window. It was probably at 105.
