Last night, my local dealer was showing a Nikon user a brochure for Nikon's
forthcoming successor to the venerable FM2. I saw only a glimpse, but as
near as I could tell, the FM3A, as I believe it is called, will be a
full-featured manual-focus-only SLR that combines the best virtues of the
FM2n (all-mechanical high-speed shutter) and FE2 (using a moving needle
instead of LEDs, but without a galvinometer) in a package that will weigh
just 20 ounces! (No built-in flash).

The camera seems to be aimed squarely at the serious enthusiast, or perhaps
as a rugged body for pros who need the ultimate in reliability.

Can someone give us more details?

I must be honest: From what I saw, if I were starting out in SLR
photography today, my name would probably be showing up on a different
discussion list.

PS: The same brochure showed Nikon's new all-metal f/2.8 pancake lens. It
will be the world's thinnest at 17mm (0.66 in.).
