Pentax has the motor in the body, except with the ME-F and SMC-FA 35-70mm
lens. It's hard to say which is better, it's probably more personal
preference. With the motor in the lens it makes the lens larger and
heavier (but since there is no motor in the body it can be smaller and
lighter). Having the motor in the lens also makes the lenses and the
system more expensive. With the motor in the body, it's cheaper because
each time you buy a lens, you aren't buying a motor to drive it either -
you just buy the motor once when you buy the body. But with the motor in
the body you have one-size-fits all, so a smaller motor may not be able to
focus a big heavy lens very well - with the motor in the lens with large
lenses they just put a bigger motor in them, so even on an entry level AF
camera the biggest, heaviest, AF lens will focus just as fast as the same
lens on the top level body.
