Ah, but for the cost of a D70 you can pick up a nice Rollei 6008i with 
2.5fps SH, and you can add a digital back to it later. The best of both 
worlds...

True.  But the new Nikon D70 will capture 144 JPEGs at three 
frames/second.
That's probably good enough for all but the most demanding purposes.
