The crayons bothers me as well. Just above, the "Saturday" on the watch is much more clearly rendered by the 10D. The metallic object shows harder clipping with the *istD. The third picture down from the top, the flowers and coins show more detail. These points are more than an issue of sharpening. The details are there and are simply clearer. Talking about noise, this is at ISO 200. The 10D can go lower. To answer someone else's post, I really don't care what Phil has to say. I'm evaluating the pictures with my own eyes. That's what counts to me. Period. As to why the subtleties carry such weight? Quality. I'm surprised that you would ask such a question Rob. I KNOW that you know the subtleties are what make a quality picture/print/enlargement. Otherwise, you wouldn't own the quality glass that you do.
