There is definitely a filter of some kind directly in front of the CCD, it has 
a slight tint so I guess it's a colour filter of some type but beyond that who 
knows. Unfortunately it's not fixed in such a way that it's accessible from the 
mirror box. In any case the absolute resolution that can be read off a lens 
test chart pretty much tallies with the practical limitations of (natural non-
aliased) resolution for the density of sensor it is.
