I know that the Super Program and likely ME aren't in the same league as the LX, but I like to keep low-budget options open.
The LX was designed and built to compete with professional cameras like Canon F-1 and Nikon F-3 in 1980. ME Super, Super A/Program and Program A/Plus were made for the consumer markets so straightly speaking, they aren't professional models. However, they are still better built than any plastic Z/PZ & MZ/ZX bodies. If they aren't used harshly, they will be just fine.
What sort of reliability issues are there with the LX? I guess that's why I see so many on ebay? What sort of upkeep expenses are involved in one of these? I'm used to a K1000 that just needs film once in a while, and a battery once in a very rare while. ;)
Many things could go wrong with the LX, but the most common is the sticky mirror problem which delays the shutter release. You really cannot predict when it will go wrong. But when it does, you have no choice but to pay the royality for the service which is not cheap. And the LX has greater chance to go wrong than other consumer models like those three mentioned above.
What's the difference between a "motordrive" and "winder"? I see them listed separately on Bojidar Dimitrov's site, some cameras working with one of each.
Anything winding film faster than 3fps is considered motor drive, but I don't think it matters.
I mention the K2dmd since even tho it's so much more than the K2, it's still almost $100 cheaper than a LX on KEH, both being in "bargain" condition. Plus I like the feel of the K1000, and I imagine the K2dmd would be similar in size, shape, and weight.
I guess the only reason to shoot for an used K2 which is $100 cheaper than the LX is for collecting purpose. Just make sure someone will be able to service it before you put down the money.
