Unfortunately I don't have to know David to tell that he shouldn't be offering advice. What you are seeing hot pixels, these are due to self excited pixels on your sensor and are nothing to do with dust. Dust specs show up as areas of dark when shooting at small apertures in good light. Having hot pixels is normal, it's the number and their sensitivity that's of concern. The Pentax *ist D has an integrated subtractive noise reduction function which will act to negate image noise generated by stuck/hot pixels for images made at shutter speeds of 1/4 second or less. It can be switched on/off so do check that it's on as it has no detrimental effects.
