Not quite, since you can always (still) buy film as you go.

Some digital cameras have very special batteries, you don't get in every
mall. And you don't need to recharge film. I always have loads of film in
the fridge. I just grab a handfull as I leave the house. I guess both the
*ist D and MZ-S can use ordenary AA batteries. But my PZ-1 don't. Anyway, I
try to keep a spare battery in my bag. But for some cameras these special
Li-Ion batteriers are quite expensive. Perhaps 1000 USD. And they need
recharging too.

How many will get sick of the film game? Having to make sure there are
enough
rolls of film in your kit ahead of time....

Making sure batteries are charged on a digi-cam is analogous to ensuring
that
you have films with you a spare meter battery.
