Scott,

You didn't mention whether you are looking for a new converter or a used
one.  On the new side there are the Pentax XS series 1.4/2x converters.  I
don't have one but hear that they are very good.  In third party there is
Tamron and Tokina/Kenko and Sigma.  I have a Tamron AF 2X 7 element
converter.  It is pretty good and I use it commonly on my FA * 200 f:2.8.  I
get a slight contrast change, but other than that, I like it.  I have heard
good things about the Kenko converters too.  The nice thing with these is
that they will AF if you have an AF lens in the future.

On the used market I know that there are all kinds available, but I don't
have any experience with them.  Perhaps one of the other list members would
care to comment.
