Hi,

Which is exactly how I did *not* learn it :-) My teachers (and the
material we followed) in Greece were very pedantic and taught us
proper British English (though some of them were American or were
taught in America). The reason was that they had to match the
strictness of the examinations we took. Who knows what the jussive
subjunctive is?

I picked up "sth" together with "HTH" on the internet.

Which one did you do? I seem to remember from my Polish friends that I was helping that it was something like the "Cambridge Advanced English" Certificate. The business of making the correct reply to the exam question, even though it would sound very odd if used in normal conversation, sounds like it. It has some very odd ways of doing things that certainly are not common useage. As I said, this course was so well regarded (maybe precisely _because_ of its pedantry) that I suspect other courses would have, er, "derived inspiration" from it.

BTW [8-)] I've just remembered that I owe you some money. My apologies - it will be in the post tomorrow.
