Here are pics from some lens/extension tube/2x converter comparisons I did yesterday. They were mainly to see what macro/closeup capabilities some of my "better" lenses had. Not scientific in any way but gives a good idea of what several different lenses, with or without converters can do. Several of these items have been mentioned on the PDML in the last few days. This might give those interested a rough idea of how they perform. Some of them surprised me, the Vivitar 200 and the Tokina Macro did pretty well but the 50/1.4/Tube didn't do so good.
Here's the setup I used: http://www.donsauction.com/PDML/LensTest/Setup.htm Lighting for the test was from the TTL Flash shown and a bit of sunlight and bounce from the "Light Cube" for fill. The hot light shown was used only to aid in focusing and was pointed away before exposure. Body was Super A, self timer was used for all shots. All shots are with aperture set to F8.0. As small as I could go on some of the combinations for adequate flash exposure.
