Hi Jim,
They did make a hood for it. Actually there are a few that work well.
There is a circular metal one (49mm thread) that was made for the Super
Takumar 35mm f/3.5 that I like when using polarizer; a metal rectangular one
that was made for both the f/2.0 and f/3.5 with 49mm thread and a flange
that allows for alignment after threading the hood onto the lens. The
rectangular hood is very nice, well worth trying to locate, but surprisingly
hard to find at any price.
I have noticed that the metal rectangular hood made for the 28mm f/3.5 (see:
http://whitemetal.com/pentax/smct_28_35/smct_28_35_21.htm
is almost, if not exactly the same sized rectangle and depth but instead of
threading onto the lens, has a collar that clamps to the outside of the
filter ring. This works just as well as the other two and is far more
common - you should be able to get one on eBay with a fitted case for not
much more than $10 on a day when a newbie is not bidding against you - heck
you can probably get the 28mm f/3.5 SMCT screw mount with cases, caps and
hood for not much more than $40 (as a way of saying don't pay too much for
the hood).

I have an SMC 35mm f2 lens that I would like to get a lens hood for. I
have a rubber hood now. I think Pentax might have made a rectangular hood
for this lens. If true, does anybody have one just lying around collecting
dust?
