John: I own a 28-70 f/4 and have taken many many pictures with it on the *ist 
D. Although it might not be terribly easy for me to decide for certain which 
pics were taken with the lens, it would be easy for me to shoot a test image 
specially for you. I also own a 70-210 f/4~5.6 and have access to a 35-70 
f/4~5.6 (I think -- it's my husband's and I could be describing it incorrectly.)
I pretty much did not understand the technical stuff in your post but if you 
want me to provide you with an image using any of the above-named lenses, drop 
me a line. Off-list is fine.
