I am amused by correspondence with Pentax USA. In a previous exchange, they told me that they know nothing about lens availability, but would be happy to answer my questions any time.

The exchange below speaks for itself. I removed the name of the poor employee who responded.

Since Pentax Japan tells the local companies nothing, it is the solemn responsibility of all PDMLers to help your local Pentax company understand the equipment that they sell.

I'll bet they don't even know the name of the Vietnamese lens assembler.

Let's all pitch in.

Joseph,

Thank you for your reply.

No updates as yet. Unfortunately, our previous e-mail response still

applies.

"Circle of confusion" refers to an out-of-focus point of light. You may be

referring to the "image circle". However, Pentax has not provided

information regarding the size of the image circle for the DA series lens.

Our understanding is that the DA image circle is maximized to the size of

the CCD sensor in the *ist D.

Joseph,

Thank you for contacting Pentax Imaging Company.

We too are anxiously awaiting deliveries of these lenses from the

manufacturer. However, an estimated delivery date has not yet been made

available to us from the manufacturer. As soon as supplies are received from

the manufacturer, we will promptly distribute them to our dealers.

Pentax has not announced plans to discontinue either lens, however.

If you have further questions, please feel free to contact our Customer

Service Department at: 800-877-0155

Thanks again,

Product: DA 14; FA 77

Purchase Date: Would love to.

Inquiry:

Would you please let me know when U.S. retailers

will have the following lenses:

DA 14 f2.8

FA 77 f1.8

The DA 14 has been available in Europe for several

weeks. I placed an order with Adorama on June 3,

and there is still no sign of the lens.

The FA 77 has been listed at B&H and Adorama as

backorder for several months. For a while B&H

listed it as a special-order item. Now they list

it again as backordered. Will this lens be

produced in the future or is it out of production?

Please do not reply "soon" or "any day now." I

need these lenses and would like to be able to

plan when I can get them.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Joseph Tainter

I have two questions, please.

Firstly, do you have an update on when the DA 14

and FA 77 will be available in the U.S.? (Please

don't reply "soon" or "any day now.")

Secondly, can you tell me what figure Pentax uses

for the circle of confusion on DA lenses? If you

don't know, could you find out? I would like to

make a depth-of-field table for my DA 16-45.

Thank you,

Joseph Tainter
