You got that mixed up a bit :-)

The manual states that you can not (reliably) use the 1.7x AF adapter
with a lens slower than f/2.8.  So the 50/1.4 is fine.

The resulting largest f-stop for the combo is simply the lens one
multiplied by the converter magnification (1.7 here), so the
1.4 will be 1.4 * 1.7 = 2.38

This is a fixed relationship, and equates to one and a half stops light loss.
