The ISO was set at 200. I don't use the *istD on automatic ISO. When
working with a tripod it doesn't make sense either....:-)

The reason you see noise is that the noise reduction was turned off.
Normally I have it turned on, but after loosing quite a lot of nice
bolts of lightning during the dark-frame exposures, I decided I would
like to try without and see how it turned out. And truly, the colour
noise was quite awful at 30 seconds exposure. In this PESO, I reduced
noise with NeatImage (boy do I like that program). Still, the result
is not as good as with noise-reduction on.

It is a bit time-consuming (understatement) to use NeatImage on each
and every shot too. I'm pondering whether it's possible to take one
shot with the lens cap on and use that for dark-frame exposures to be
added to the shots later.
