Still spinning it I see Willliam. Nobody has said that a 50mm lens is really a 75mm lens. Do you understand English?
What they are saying is that a 50mm lens "becomes" a 70mm lens when placed on a digital camera. I.e. Its angle of view decreases to that of a 70mm lens. Here is a dictionary definition: \Be*come"\, v. i. 1. To pass from one state to another; to enter into some state or condition, by a change from another state, or by assuming or receiving new properties or qualities, additional matter, or a new character. Get it now? The AOV (its state) of a 50mm lens changes to that of a 70mm lens, when used with a smaller sensor (i.e when it receives new properties or qualities....). Shorthand, 50mm becomes 70mm. Other accepted English examples. 1. 100 pounds becomes 160 Euros. (again no actual change to the 100, dont read it literally) 2. 50 degrees Celsius becomes xx degrees Fahrenheit.
