Hi Chris, I was thinking of an M42 lens set to "M". Then turning the aperture ring changes the position of the aperture blades in all cases (when the lens is not mounted or mounted on a K-mount body). The body does not know the aperture setting, so it uses what is "sees". The lens does not close down further when the shot is taken, so the picture is exposed properly, at the selected aperture. You are writing about the same setup but with the "Auto" seting engaged. I guess that we are both correct, but we are talking about different things. Sorry.
