I have a 28-90mm F:2.8-3.5 macro zoom here that I've rebuilt and not sure I did it correctly. It's a VariFocal type, the focus changes as the FL is changed, it focuses much closer at the 28mm end than at 90mm. So far, so good. Now here's the issue, it focuses just to infinity at 28mm but somewhat *past* infinity at 90mm. Has anyone seen a lens that exhibits this behaviour? I *think* I've re-assembled it correctly but since it was in pieces when I got it I can't be 100% certain. I do know that the elements are in their correct positions, won't fit any other way. Seems very sharp and bright at all FLs, other than the one odd behaviour it seems OK. It's another old Vivitar Series 1 by the way.
