Hi all,

is there any official or reasonable convention how to name the new familiy
of digital lenses?

The official sites use e.g.

DA lenses / DA-lenses

smcDA, smc-DA, Pentax smc DA

smc PENTAX-DA, smc Pentax-DA, Pentax smc DA

(probably P for Pentax in smc P-DA).

The latest macros show "smc Pentax D FA" or "smc PENTAX-D FA"

Up to then I felt rather comfortable about the families

SMC-K
SMC-M
SMC-A
SMC-F
SMC-FA

However, now I wonder which of those ever was an official description - I
doubt SMC-K and I don't have any clue about the new 'smc'. According to
pentaxusa.com, all of the former models now are named "smc P-FA" etc.

I suppose, the official text on the lense read as

  SMC PENTAX
  SMC PENTAX-M
  SMC PENTAX-A
  SMC PENTAX-A*
  ...?

(and a font where you don't know whether SMC is upper or lower chars)

It's only a minor topic. But once again after creating a name that no-one
else knows how to pronounce (star-ist) or find by any search engine
(*ist, *istD), they now thought about yet another topic how to confuse the
users :-/

If it's modern to use lower case chars, it should be smcDa :-(

sorry for ranting,
Martin
