I personally would try to avoid colloquial expressions such as "getting more bang for the buck" in a rather formal letter.
OTOH, digital is quite a different beast/media than film/photo paper. It can emulate the look of film photography if you want to stretch it in that direction. But it can also be something of its own that can go in many directions, and is quite flexible in the hands of someone that understands it and has some talent.
Let's admit it. The purpose is creating attractive images. Why do they have to look like traditional photographs ? Hand coloured photos anyone ? What was that trend ? Why should digital emulate "pure" photography ?
