Manual focus lenses cannot "talk" to the camera. If the mechanical linkage to read the lens aperture isn't

Like someone else mentioned briefly, that's not quite true; the lenses would require extra work, but aren't entirely unusable - it shouldn't be too hard to set the correct exposure time in manual mode. As far as I understand, when these cameras have manual lenses attached, the metering system will always suggest the exposure time that would be correct with the lens fully open. Setting the time that's actually right is just a matter of starting with that value and increasing it with the same number of steps as the lens has been stopped down, isn't it?

I think I read somewhere that at least one of the models will actually refuse to fire the shutter when used that way, though. Or perhaps you just have to enable some special function to allow it. Or maybe both of these may be true, depending on the actual model.

Another thought: If the camera has DOF-preview (the *ist at least does), maybe you can get the correct setting by measuring while that function is engaged?

These bodies include the *ist, mz/zx-30 mz/zx-50 mz/zx-60

One of my students has a newer, low-end AF body ... don't know the model at
this point, but they all seem pretty much the same to me. Will K-mount
lenses work on them? What has to be done to the camera settings to get
these manual focus lenses to "talk" to the camera. Tks!
