I asked the same question about my *istD and AF360FGZ. This combination also will not allow me to select TTL mode - only Auto or P-TTL. However, I noticed that with lenses in the "off-A" position, despite the flash LCD display claiming P-TTL mode, the absence of a "double flash" leads me to believe that it is actually in plain TTL mode. It might be the same with your 645. Take a few test shots and look at how the flash fires. If you notice a double flash (very closely spaced) = P-TTL. If there is clearly only one flash = TTL.
