Hi JCO
I have some really nice analog recordings, on some of the lp's I can hear
things which are simple not on the same
CD, for example the pseudo quadro vinyl recording of Pink Floyd's "Atom
heart mother" or the direct from the master
recorded "Dark side of the moon" sound better than the common CD (maybe
third generation copy).

But you need a very expensive and well calibrated system to hear that
difference, I can only hear it with the
Stax electrostatic earphones. And the price difference for that little extra
quality is incredible.

Nobody mentioned, that most of us simple do not have the room and/or good
acoustics and understanding neighborhood to listen at the correct loudness,
that's the most limiting factor on the other side of the chain.
You may have the finest equipment, but a real deep bass for example needs
up to ~ 10 Meters length,
I sadly have no rooms this wide, my neighbor can see the cups in his kitchen
jump if I turn up the John Bowers Active One speakers or even the small Sub
woofer.

Beside that, there are some wonderful digital recordings, not to mention 5.1
sound or film soundtracks.
I have some recordings on CD which could not be pressed on vinyl, for
example super low computer generated bass.

If you can, listen to that Absolute Sound CD, I just love it on a 7.1 system
with Lexicon (analog) decoder :-)

For me, this discussion is a bit academic.
Not even naming one example of a very good recording is like eating dry
bread for me :-)
I would make a profit If you or anybody else would mention some good
recordings in both worlds.

audiophile greetings
Markus
