I probably prefer the idea in the shot with the blue kayak, because it doesn't feel like the mountain's head was cut off by the clouds, plus there is an easier differentiation between the foreground, midground and background and distant background. If I would have done anything differently, I would have shot it from a much lower angle- almost on the ground, to give it a more interesting angle (with the current angle, I can guess how you were standing- when you got the shot, which I'd rather not be distracted with), and I might have gone closer to the kayak so as to emphasise the wide aspect of the lens. Of course, different strokes for different folks :)
