I've had a motor drive on my MX in the past. It is the sweetest sounding drive I've ever heard. Yes, different types of external battery packs: a battery grip affair which is ghastly and bolts on providing a vertical grip directly beneath the drive, and takes 12 AA batteries! The much more expensive but much more sensible option is to get hold of either the NiCad Pack MX, or the NiCad Pack LX which is a direct fit. In fact, way back when, I first posted to this list about re-celling a NiCad Pack LX that I got from Peter in Sunny Brighton. I got some Sanyo cells from Batteries America: <http://www.mrnicd-ehyostco.com/newpage3.htm> and printed off Robb Studdert's excellent re-celling guide: <http://members.ozemail.com.au/~distudio/pentax_nicd_pack/> and hey presto I had a fantastic drive with new batteries and boy that things rattled off those shots. I thanked Studdsy and told him I'd buy him a pint if ever made it to England and stone the crows the bugger turned up to collect! :-) And the rest, as they say, is history.
