1 of the 2 coated elements might got loosen. You can try to clip them in place. If they were broken, just buy the eyepiece assembly from Pentax and replace it yourself. I think it costs less than USD20.

1) Remove the flash cover (there are a clip & a screw on both side. The clips are fragile so be careful) and push the flash back in.
2) Remove all screws (5) on the top, + 1 screw inside the battery compartment.
3) Life the top carefully and never ever touch any contacts inside. They are extremely fragile.
4) Now you can remove the entire eyepiece assembly (2 screws) and work with it.

My Pentax PZ-1 developed a problem recently. The plastic (?) viewfinder
seems to have become loose from inside towards the top side. This happens
when the Diopter sliding switch is all the way to the right (most-negative
setting and a couple more). I can hear and see a plastic thingy loosely
fitting inside and shaking. As a result, the viewfinder image is
completely warped and I cannot focus or read the digital information.

The same plastic see-thru thingy becomes stable and tight if the
diopter switch is all the way to the left at most-positive setting.
But then the viewfinder becomes blurred and I can't see much anyways.
At the correct setting, I can shake the camera a little and have the
plastic thing in the correct place for me to take a shot. But it
takes 2-10 minutes to have it in place for 5-10 sec to compose and
shoot.

Has anyone experienced this before? If yes, what are the costs and
time involved to get it fixed? Is it possible to repair it by oneself?
Is there a PZ-1 service/repair manual on the net? Google didn't
help much on this problem.

Thanks a lot!
Gaurav
