Yes, by selecting fine lenses and accessories I improved my results a lot
(DA 16-45, FA 50/1,4 and Sigma 70-200/2.8 DG + Manfrotto 559B monopod for
low-light shots).

I believe that when all Saints in Heaven help (sharp lens, good contrast
light, steady camera, careful focus, etc.) you can have very nice results.
However, a lighter anti-alias filter would help in less than ideal
conditions (=lower contrast), when other cameras still perform fine and the
*ist D "looses" more resolution and detail than them. That's my experience.
