Somerville is an hour west of Manhattan, and many locals work in New York Ciy. The memorial was placed by Somerset County, on the court house square, in memory of the 39 county residents who died in the World Trade Center twin towers that were destroyed by terrorists three years ago. The steel beam on the left side of the clock tower is from the debris at ground zero.
