Would earlier K-mount lenses (K, M, A, FA) focus any closer when used on an istD(S) than when used on film camera bodies?
No - the back-focus is unchanged. Many people percieve an apparent increase in the depth of field when enlarging images from smaller-format sensors though, which might allow you to get closer to your subject.
