Your comment reminds me that a recent issue of Aperture (#171) did a feature on HCB's early work, much of it previously unpublished, including some photos he made in 1931 in Ivory Coast. The issue also includeds an interview with the old guy. Probably a nice addition to the library of HCB fans. The book Bob mentioned is quite nice and worthwile, as well - perhaps more so than the magazine if only for it's quantity of photographs.
