Collecting coins and as much money as possible in other forms has been a popular
pastime since long before the Romans!

yes, I know. It wouldn't have worn down like that while it was buried.
Before we decimalised here we had coins which had been in circulation for
a lot longer than the time separating Domitian from Hadrian, many of which
were almost as worn as the one in Jostein's picture.

The more I look, the more I think J's coin shows Domitian. After Hadrian
they seem to have had a fashion for beards. Also the laurel crown and
the ringlets of hair seem like a good match with Domitian's coins.
Domitian had less of the characteristic 'Mister Punch' look about him than
Vespasian (who is the original of Mr. Punch) and his other ancestors.
