No compensation is needed for the soft box if you use the flash in TTL
mode since the camera will make the adjustment, it will measure that
much less light coming through the lens and simply leave the flash open
longer automatically. 

Some manual compensation may be needed because of unusual reflectivity
of the subject, though. If a black dress fills most of the frame, it
will need about a stop and a half less exposure than the meter calls
for, if a white dress fills most of the frame, about a stop and a half
more. If the frame is filled with an overall average scene, no
compensation is called for. 

The only other thing to worry about (maybe) is distance -- losing that
light due to diffusion shortens the maximum distance at which the flash
will provide enough light for any given f-stop.
