I keep coming back to this photo again and again - can't keep my eyes off it. Good point about the fishnet stockings, Keith. I didn't mention them, but the scant glimpse of them is a beautiful detail. I'm looking at the poor little waif (who wants us to think she's something other than that), and her body position is almost like a fetal position. Anyone remember Suzanne Vega? Her first album had a song called (I think) Small Blue Thing, or something like that. She sang about wanting to curl up and make herself as small as possible, like a small blue marble, IIRC. This is typical of those who have severely sexually abused as young children. She looks to me like she just wants to shrink into the pavement and disappear. I can't imagine the horrors that she may have gone through as a child, to end up on the streets, with that clown, likely with pretty severe substance abuse problems, almost selling her body (or maybe not "almost"). I'll shut up now, because I've already commented once, and I don't want to overdo this. I just find this to be a terrifically moving photograph. Again, Shel, one of your best. cheers, frank -- "Sharpness is a bourgeois concept." -Henri Cartier-Bresson
