But the price!  I was astonished by the excellent condition of my
"bargain" 645, and I paid $300 as opposed to  $1500+ for the new AF 645
NII.  Actually, the older AF 645N is also available for about $600.  I
did find it funny, however, that your grandchildren were afraid of the
big camera.  I saw Norm's 67 at GFM, and it was a "bigun".

These MF's are not "classic" cameras for which there is high demand and
no 
suitable replacement (like the LX). Further, when the new models come
out, 
they are similar or better in quality & design, have all the original 
features plus new ones. This leads to a preference for the new models
over 
the old ones.
