Not that hard - friends of mine certainly did it.  Many of their friends
are active SCA members, so they decided to do their wedding in costume.
The groom wore something pretty much like a "three musketeers" outfit,
while the bride was in a full double-circle brocade dress.  All the SCA
members came in costume.  For the rest of us, fancy dress was encouraged.
There were a dread pirate Roberts, a King and Queen of hearts, etc.
My wife and I (and a third friend) decided to do something unexpected,
so we hired cardinal's robes and went as the Spanish inquisition.

The wedding was conducted by another friend, probably best described
as a neo-pagan, who took out a Massachussetts license specifically for
this occasion (he normally performs ceremonies in the New York area).
As it took place in a semi-public area of a local hotel, there were a
lot of *very* puzzled people wandering around the hotel lobby ...
