I prefer version 1 by a slight margin. I think the heavier facial shadows of version 2 are not as pleasing for this subject. Even the background benefits from the slightly lighter treatment. However, the difference could fall the other way on a monitor with brightness cranked up higher or a different gamma. Mine is set to match my printer outtput in brightness and it's Mac gamma.
